Prepare for a life-changing career in healthcare.

Discover a pre-med program that will effectively prepare you for advanced degrees in the medical field. Whether you are interested in dentistry, medicine, optometry, pharmacy—or anything in between—you will graduate prepared to find success in the next step of your professional life.

Bethany’s pre-med program provides a variety of courses across disciplines that offer a strong foundation in chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics, and English. Pre-med students can choose any major as long as they complete the admission requirements for their graduate/medical program of interest—including taking the appropriate qualifying exam such as the DAT, GRE, MCAT, OAT, or PCAT.

In addition to coursework, pre-med students have the opportunity to engage in extracurricular activities outside of the classroom. Students participate in the Pre-Health Professions Club, complete shadowing opportunities, practice for various graduate admission entrance exams, and experience medical mission work.

“My education at Bethany helped me land a big internship at Johns Hopkins University, which really boosted my medical school application. Ten years later, I am now a urologist at WVU Medicine, and I still keep in contact with many of my professors. If I had to do it all over again, I would choose Bethany College every time.”

"Becoming a physician was always a dream of mine. When I initially toured Bethany as a high school student, I knew it was a special place. The faculty to student ratio is second to none. My professors always responded promptly to any questions I had, and they would meet with me any time. It is evident that the professors at Bethany truly care about the success of their students, and they help them every step of the way to achieve their goals. Bethany’s pre-med program provides a variety of courses that will prepare you for qualifying exams, graduate/medical school, and a successful career in the healthcare field. To ensure an optimized course schedule, plan to consult early in your first year with the chair of the Health Professions Advisory Committee.

Your courses may include:

  • CHEM 101 General Chemistry I
Explores theoretical chemistry and descriptive inorganic chemistry. The laboratories provide students with experience in basic laboratory manipulations, problem solving, and testing of hypotheses. Lectures and laboratories meet for 6 hours per week.
  • BIOL 100 Modern Concepts in Life Science
Introduces modern concepts of cell biology, metabolism, photosynthesis, nutrition, reproduction, heredity, evolution, behavior, and ecology.
  • MATH 201 Calculus
Studies the real number system, equations of a line, functions, limits, continuity, and techniques of differentiation and integration applied to maximum and minimum problems and to related rates. The course includes four hours of class and one laboratory session each week.
  • CHEM 211 Organic Chemistry I
Provides a survey of organic functional groups and the fundamentals of organic chemistry. The laboratory includes basic laboratory techniques for separation, purification, reaction, and analysis.
  • CHEM 212 Organic Chemistry II
Includes more in-depth study of mechanisms, organic synthesis, and analysis. Laboratory work consists largely of organic preparations and identification of unknown compounds.
